Amex offers Experian FICO score to most cardholders && A summary of credit card issuers that offer free FICO scores

8/19/2015

Since early August, Amex has started offering free FICO score to most of its cardmembers.  When you log into your account, you will see on the right hand side, there is a link "My Free FICO Score (NEW)".  The FICO score offered by Amex is from Experian, one of the big three credit reporting agencies.  Amex started running a pilot program that gave this score to select card members since late 2014, and Chase has been giving this score to only Slate card members.

FICO scores used to be available to paid customers only, and they are the real scores that are used by your lenders (versus "fake" scores or FAKO offered by many credit monitoring services).  In the recent years, banks have started offering FICO for free for their customers.  Here we would like to give a summary of which major card issuers are giving them for free and which reporting agencies they are using.

TransUnion FICO
Barclays: all cards offer free TransUnion FICO scores.
Discover: all cards offer free TransUnion FICO scores.

Equifax FICO
Citi: many Citicards including AAdvantage and ThankYou credit cards offer free Equifax FICO.

Experian FICO
Amex: most cards now offer free Experian FICO.
Chase: only Slate cardmembers receive free Experian FICO.

Do you hate foreign transaction fees your bank charge for your purchases made aboard or even from foreign websites?  If you do, I am sure you would like to know which credit cards have foreign transaction fee waivers.

Are you confused about whether or not you shall buy collision damage waiver (CDW) from your rental car company?  This featured review will help you understand your options and which cards offer free primary rental car collision coverage.

New reviews this week!

Several new reviews have been added toe the All Reviews section.  Looks like I am very close to completing all my reviews - please note that I only intend to write about credit cards that are interesting and/or represent good values.

J.P. Morgan Select is a relatively new card, a nice addition to Chase's line of premium UR cards to rival Amex (Sapphire Preferred, Ink Bold Business).  Capital One 1.5% Cash MC is new while the idea is nothing new.  Similar cards I reviewed this week (even they have been out for a while) are Capital One Venture, Discover Escape and FIA Fidelity Visa.

The sad news is that more and more people who were grandfathered in on their awesome FIA Charles Schwab Visa which returns 2% cashback with $0 annual fee & $0 foreign transaction fee are getting converted to a not-so-attractive BofA cash rewards card.  The Schwab Visa was discontinued to new applications last year and FIA seems giving existing members a year or so the enjoy the free ride.  Thanks to this, Capital One is gaining market share with its Venture Card since it also offers 2% rewards and $0 foreign transaction fees, but with a $59 annual fee (waived for 1st year).  I really don't know how much longer Fidelity Amex, which is still our benchmark, will be around.
