We have been making updates throughout the site in the past couple of weeks.  Here are some highlights:
  • Citi AAdvantage Executive WEMC has been offering a signup bonus of 75,000 miles.  The card carries a $450 annual fee but provides full American Airlines Admirals Club membership for the primary cardholder and the complimentary access to the Admirals Club for each authorized user who can be added without a fee.
  • Synchrony Bank has increased signup bonus of Cathay Pacific Visa from 25,000 miles to 50,000 miles.  The $95 annual fee is not waived.
  • CNB Crystal Visa Infinite has a in-branch only signup bonus of 50,000 points.
  • BofA Virgin Atlantic WEMC has an increased signup bonus of 75,000 miles (advertised as 90K as usual).

Amex Premier Rewards Gold 50,000 points (1st year free) && Amex Platinum Card 100,000 points ($450 annual fee, $200 annual airline credit, airport lounge access, hotel privileges, etc.)

Amex has a promotional offer for one of our Top Listers Premier Rewards Gold Card - you will receive 50,000 Membership Rewards points after you open a new account and spend $1,000 within 3 months.  The regular offer is 25,000 points.  The first year annual fee is waived, saving $195.  Please note that the signup bonus will NOT be given if you have or previously had this product.

However, there is no public link that works for everyone.  Amex has recently been trying something new when offering a signup promotion to customers.  Looks like that people may get different offers when visiting Amex website.  Don’t worry, if you follow the following steps, you will most likely get the 50K offer on the PR Gold:
  1. open your browser in incognito mode (in Google Chrome, or InPrivate mode in Internet Explorer, or Private mode in Firefox or Safari);
  2. visit Amex website and find the Premier Rewards Gold Card - most likely you will see the 50K offer;
  3. if you still have the 25K offer showing, clear cookies in your browser and try again or use a different browser.

Also for a limited time, Amex is also running a promotion offer for its Platinum Card - you will receive 100,000 Membership Rewards points after you open a new account and spend $3,000 within 3 months.  The regular offer is 40,000 points.  The $450 annual fee is NOT waived.  Steep the annual fee may seem, after taking advantage of the $200 annual airline credit, your effective annual fee becomes $250 and you could enjoy some very valuable perks such as airport lounge access, Fine Hotels and Resorts, reimbursed Global Entry application fees, etc.  That is why it is not only on our Top List, but also recommended as one of cards worth paying annual fees without spending.  Please note that the signup bonus will NOT be given if you have or had this product.

You can follow similar steps listed above; however, the 100K offer on the Platinum Card is much harder to come by - you may need to try dozens of times.  If you prefer calling Amex instead, you can give them the POID code BUIU:0001 and they will be able to find the 100K offer for you.

Amex Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) 30,000 points each (personal and business) & 1st year free

8/12/2015

Amex has offered increased signup bonus to 30,000 points (from the regular 25,000 points) for its Amex SPG, for several summers in a row.  Now it is back through September 14, 2015.  This time, you will need to spend $3,000 within 3 months to receive 30K points for the personal card version, and you will need to spend $5,000 within 3 months to receive 30K points for the business card version.  Our current valuation of Starpoints is 2.25 cents per point, thus the signup bonus for each card will be $675.  If you sign up both personal and business cards, you will receive 60,000 points.

Also note that even though the annual fee is waived for the first year, it has been increased from $65 to $95 effective today.  However, Amex does bring a few new perks to justify the increase in annual fees: waived foreign transaction fees, complimentary unlimited Boingo Wi-Fi plan, complimentary premium internet at participating Starwood hotels, and finally access to Sheraton Club Lounges for business cardholders.  We have updated our review to reflect these changes.

Live again - BofA Virgin Atlantic WEMC 75,000 miles (advertised as 90,000 miles, $90 annual fee)

Similar deals were offered twice earlier this year, in August and then in October.  Now it is back.  When you open a new Virgin Atlantic WEMC and pay the $90 annual fee, you will receive 20,000 miles after the first use, an additional 5,000 miles for adding two authorized users, and an additional 50,000 miles after spending $12,000 within 6 months.  So the total bonus for signing up the card is up to 75,000 miles.  Then upon each anniversary, you will receive 7,500 miles if you spend $15,000 in the previous membership year, and an additional 7,500 miles if you spend $25,000 in the previous membership year.  So it is misleading to call the offer 90K since the 15K annual bonus is a standard feature of the card.

We blogged about the same offer in August and it expired about a month later.  Now it is back - no surprise here since BofA has made an 50K offer (advertised as 65K) on and off many many times throughout the past years.

When you open a new Virgin Atlantic Black WEMC and pay the $90 annual fee, you will receive 20,000 miles after the first use, an additional 5,000 miles for adding two authorized users, and an additional 50,000 miles after spending $12,000 within 6 months.  So the total for signing up the card is up to 75K.

BofA Virgin Atlantic WEMC 75,000 miles (advertised as 90,000 miles, $90 annual fee)

BofA has been offering 50K (advertised as 65K) for its Virgin Atlantic Black Card for a few years - it was never continuous but for limited time several times a year.  This is the first time we have seen a new offer advertised as 90K.  You will receive 20,000 miles after the first purchase, an additional 5,000 miles for adding two authorized users, and a additional 50,000 miles after spending $12,000 within 6 months.  So the total for signing up the card is up to 75K.  Then upon each anniversary, you will receive 7,500 miles if you spend $15,000 in the previous membership year, and an additional 7,500 miles if you spend $25,000 in the previous membership year.  So again it is misleading to call the offer 90K.

Compared to the 50K offer which requires $2,500 spending, you need to spend an additional $9,500 to receive an additional 25,000 points.

BofA Virgin Atlantic WEMC 50,000 miles (advertised as 65K, $90 annual fee NOT waived)

BofA has just brought back the 50,000 miles offer for its Virgin Atlantic WEMC, advertised as 65,000 miles.  You receive 20,000 miles after the first use, an additional 25,000 miles when you spend at least $2,500 within 90 days, an additional 5,000 miles for adding two authorized users, and finally up to 15,000 miles upon 1st anniversary.  We always think BofA's marketing is kind of deceptive here since not only to get the final 15,000 miles you need to spend $15,000 in the first year, but also this is actually a standard feature on the card and shouldn't be considered as signup bonus.  The $90 annual fee is not waived for the first year. From the past experience, we know that this is a limited time offer but don't worry if you miss it since it will be back again.

BofA brings back 50,000 miles bonus for its Virgin Atlantic Black Card

[Update 1/15/2014] While the old link expired a while ago, there is another new link that gives exactly the same 50K upon signup.  Click on this link to apply.

[Original Post] This offer has been on and off in the past several years.  So the bottom line is if you miss it just be patient and wait a fee months.

As always, they advertise the offer to be 65,000 points but since the last 15,000 points is a standard feature of the card, we consider this offer to be 50,000 points upon signup:
  • 20,000 Flying Club bonus miles after your first retail purchase;
  • 25,000 additional Flying Club bonus miles after you spend at least $2,500 in qualifying purchases;
  • Earn 5,000 Flying Club bonus miles when you add two authorized users to your card;
  • Earn up to 15,000 additional bonus miles upon anniversary (you need to spend up to $25K within a year).

The other interesting thing is that Virgin Atlantic Black is now a World Elite MasterCard instead of Amex.

BofA Virgin Atlantic Black Amex 50,000 points (advertised as 65,000 points, 1st year annual fee NOT waived)

So after being unavailable for several months, BofA finally brings back this offer for its Virgin Atlantic Black Amex:
  • 20,000 miles after the 1st use,
  • 25,000 miles after spending $2,500 within 90 days,
  • 2,500 miles for adding an authorized user, up to 5,000 miles (two authorized users), and
  • 15,000 miles upon anniversary for spending $25,000 annually (since this is a standard feature of the card, I call this offer 50K instead of 65K as advertised).
  • Note that the $90 annual fee is not waived for the 1st year.
