[Original Post 2/15/13] The best offer for Barclays US Airways World MasterCard has always been the one we blogged about a while ago - 40K miles after 1st use & 1st year free (saving $89) & up to 10K miles for balance transfer & 10K miles upon each anniversary until yesterday (February 14, 2013) when US Airways and American Airlines announced the merger. It was taken down within a few hours of the announcement.
Why is it the time to get a US Airways credit card? Since the new airline after the merge is called American Airlines, US Airways credit cards will be history. The issuer of the new credit card products for the new American Airlines remains unknown at this point - it could be Citi who issues the current American Airlines cards, Barcalys, or another bank. It is even possible both Citi and Barcalys will offer them. No matter which scenario, if you haven't had US Airways and/or American Airlines credit cards before, it is a good time to sign up for the bonus miles since eventually all these miles will become the new American Airlines miles and what is more important, you may even get new bonus miles if the new products are different.
So now the best offers for US Airways MasterCard are the following two:
- Get 40,000 miles after the 1st use & 10,000 miles for balance transfer (fees apply so not very good). But the 1st annual fee is not waived and there is no renewal bonus. The application link is here.
- Get 35,000 miles after the 1st use with the 1st annual fee waiver and 10,000 miles upon each anniversary. The application link is here. The bonus information is in the Terms and Conditions.
